Yes, this is Brand name Elder Winget, not generic brand collinhead signed in by someone else. :P I'm just kidding, I appreciate those who have kept up my blog/facebook/etc while I've been gone. Anyway, I just thought I'd say hi and thanks to everyone who still reads my blog. I wanted to enlighten you about things of my life, so here goes.

I'm currently serving in the Atlanta Georgia mission while waiting for my visa to clear to New Caledonia. It's part of the Fiji Suva mission, although New Caledonia is technically part of France, and has nothing to do with Fiji. So from what I understand my visa should clear in 2 weeks-ish or so. Most likely it has already been cleared with France and they're just waiting to get it back from the islands. So I shouldn't be here too terribly long.

However, I'm loving it here and I wouldn't mind staying here for a little while longer. I like my companion, Elder Lewis, I like my area, "Carrollton inner", and I love the fact that there are fireflies! :D

I'm excited to be out of the MTC, but it's not all bad. I never really hated it as much as everyone else did. However, the mission field is so much better. Just for the fact that I can actually share the gospel with people, instead of pretending to share the gospel with people who already have it.

I love getting email and real mail, and I would love to hear from you! Even if it is just a few lines. My email address is

wingetsandwich@myldsmail.net

and my Preparation day is on Wednesdays, so I'll probably email you back some time Wednesday morning, although it could also in the afternoon.

I love getting snail mail also, and the address for that is

Elder Collin Winget
104B Danny Dr.
Carrollton, GA 30017

And you can mail me there. However, because I have no idea how long I'm going to be here, your mail might get returned. And in that case, it most likely means I'm already off to New Caledonia. That address is:

Elder Collin Winget
Bureau de la Mission
B P 15154
Cedex
98804 Noumea Cedex
NEW CALEDONIA

If you want to send a letter, leave that address as is. If you want to send a package, take off Elder Collin Winget from the front, and put Attention: Elder Collin Winget on the bottom, after NEW CALEDONIA.
I don't expect any packages because of the fees involved for overseas shipping, but if you happen to send a package, here are some guidelines.
Don't send more than one or 2 of an item. They are suspicious of re-sale. Take all CDs out of packaging, and include all receipts with everything. Do not send medications or beef jerky, they will be destroyed.

Thank you for reading. If you want more current updates, look at that other blog that my mom and sister are doing. You'll see more pictures and stuff and more updates. Anyway, thanks for reading. I love you all, and have a great day.

-Elder Winget

new blog

hey so me and my mom decided it would just be easier to make an entirely new blog for collin's mission, so we could send the link to family and stuff. i'm sure collin wouldnt want his like... aunt coming on and reading this blog. so the NEW blog is www.ninjamissionary.blogspot.com

the amazingness of the blog is 100% my mom's doing, BTW. i'm really surprised how much of a blogger my mom is ^^;

also, we set up a picasa account, but apparently you have to be invited to see the pics. i dont want to go through collin's contacts and invite everyone because that would be tedious, so just email me at cactus.joe@gmail.com if you need an invite, and i'll invite you :)

Channing beat me.

Haha, apparently Channing beat me to it, and knows Collin's more specific address.
I'll leave the blog to her to update.
:)

Current Address

Hey all of Collin's loyal blog readers... Well, in like 2 weeks. April 30th.
So basically there's one of those farewell things going on in exactly 2 weeks from today. April 27th. 1 o'clock PM. So if you want to come hear me speak, then you're welcome to. Then there is a party dealio going on at my house afterwards. You know, talk, meet, greet, feet, etc. I'm not sure exactly on the time of the open house at my house afterwards, but some time after church.
SO basically if you want to ever see me again, that is the time.
And if you want the addresses just email me and I'll hook you up. I'll be posting them later since I don't know my church's address off the top of my head.
SO tell anyone you can think of that might want to go. :D

And I'll have Brittanny post my addresses for letters and email when I leave. ;)

Thinking about a girl...

So I'm thinking about a girl. No, different girl. Not the one I just wrote a blog thing about. Anyway, I don't know if it's just that its spring or what, but most of the time all I can think of is girls. As some of you may have noticed. They are all around and sort of hard to miss. However my focus is usually on one. She's like a song that is stuck in my head.. But my most favorite song so I never get sick of it. And then my dreams are to the same tune..

It's a shame we're so far apart. *Sigh...* All I can do is text her. I like it. Apple went to great lengths to make it look just like the Mac version. They even use Mac scroll-bars, Mac font smoothing (instead of the built-in Windows Cleartype) and Windows Live Search isn't even an option in the search bar.

The only giveaway is that the menubar isn't at the top of the screen and doesn't have the Mighty Blue Apple in the corner. Anyway, it is a little questionable that it installs automatically when you update iTunes, but it's still cool anyway. It's like my home away from home in Windows.

That being said, I usually use Firefox when I'm on my Mac anyway. I just like AdBlock, Greasemonkey and Foxmarks too much to convert to Safari for good. However I have found pretty good Safari alternates today, I'm going to try them out when I get home.

But Safari is very pretty, and very snappy when going from page to page. Much faster than IE or Firefox. And when I'm on my Mac, it launches leaps and bounds faster than Firefox; almost immediately when I click the icon. Firefox has to wait almost 20 seconds sometimes. On this specific PC, Safari launches in about 6 seconds, compared to IE7's about 3. Firefox took about 11 seconds. But this is a slow computer.

All in all, Safari is pretty cool for Mac or Windows. What can I say, Apple makes a pretty good product.

Do Louis XIV wish they were Radiohead?

So I have recently been digging this song called Karma Police by Radiohead. For the most part I don't listen to Radiohead, (I know, I know, blasphemy, blah blah blah) but I do really like this song. I absolutely love the piano and guitar chords in the beginning, the dark bass-line, and the piano throughout. I also love "This is what you get when you mess with us." from the lyrics of the song. So after listening to it quite a few times, the chords and instrumentation are seered into my brain.
So when I heard this new song called Air Traffic Control by Louis XIV, my first impression was that it was some sort or remix or mashup with Karma Police, but it turns out the intro is just a blatant rip-off.

Listen.

Karma Police:

Air Traffic Control:

And here they are mixed together: (I had to change the speed a little bit but it's still the same song)

They sound just the same to me. The Air Traffic Control is a little slower and has strings and some sort of banjo or something in there, but the chord progression is the same. Notice where the bass hits in Karma Police at about 26 seconds and where the bass hits in Air Traffic Control at about 14 seconds. Also notice the fade into the verses, Karma Police at 21 seconds and Air Traffic Control at 27 seconds. Maybe it's just me, but these Louis XIV guys should come up with their own music. And the voice is just plain annoying.

And then to unravel more conspiracy, or rather just to point out, Karma Police has been compared to the piano in Sexy Sadie by The Beatles. Thom Yorke himself (Radiohead's lead guy) has said that they had been listening to The Beatles when they made OK Computer.

Well I guess it could be worse. At least they're copying a good song.

And at least it's not as bad as Vanilla Ice.

Fallin, yes I am fallin...

When I said I'd go to a choir concert last week I didn't know it would end in meeting the love of my life and spending ridiculous amounts of time thinking about her. But ah. It sure did.

I seem to have a lot of friends in choir. I'm not sure why, but it's true. Either they were in choir when they were in high school or they are in choir now, but either way choir is involved in the mix somehow. I myself was in band, but I didn't make a lot of friends there. Band people are weird. But at least they're better than Orchestra people. Now those guys are WEIRD.

Kidding, kidding. I do have some band geek friends and a few orchdork friends and they're just awesome. There are a few stereotypical super-nerd types that are quite simply, constantly annoying the crap out of me, but you will find those in any organization. Be it band, orchestra, chess club, or pokemon club. They all have them. My sister is in band and plays the Tenor Sax, and she's the most awesome person I know.

Anyway, the point of this rambling here is I ended up going to a Choir/Band concert with an American freedom type theme on Saturday. My sister was playing in the band and since I was already there, I was going to give her a ride home. But she and her little friends wanted to go to Iceburg to celebrate whatever so I came along. I sat down at the table and stared at my cell phone while my sister waited in line for me.

Now with me it's not too uncommon for someone completely random that I can't remember ever seeing in my life recognizing me and coming up to say hi to me. I'm not sure why, because I don't usually label myself as being one of those popular kids, but somehow everybody in the flippin world knows me. And I know about 20% of these people. It's not a bad thing, I do like attention. So when people come up to me that I don't really recognize my natural reaction is to say "Oh hi! How are you!" instead of "So who are you?" since I don't want to embarrass myself or the other person.

So when this girl came up to me and said Hi Collin! I didn't hesitate but to say "Well hello, how are you?" And I hardly looked up from my cell phone. But then when I saw her out of the corner of my eye and realized she was attractive, I looked up. It took me a couple seconds to realize that she was someone that I talked to every day in school for 2 years. Duh. She was cute back then, but the girl standing in front of me was nothing short of gorgeous. Of the drop dead type. She had cut and dyed her hair kind of a brownish color, but other than that nothing much had changed about her appearance. In the few seconds that I hesitated while all this was going through my mind she said "Did you forget who I am?" And I said "Oh wow, no! I didn't recognize you at first!" So we talked for a minute and eventually she had to go. Short and simple conversation about old times and what-not. But for some reason I can't get her out of my mind.

So now it's 4 days later and I'm still thinking about her. I haven't had this reaction to a girl in like a year, and in fact I've been so bitter and hardened by the year before that I haven't really even brought myself to like a girl. But with this girl.. If at any time I wanted to use that cliché "love at first sight", this would be it. I guess it wasn't really first sight, and i've actually known her for years, but it feels like first sight. She was always a cute girl, but she never had quite this effect on me. Wow. If I wasn't so awestruck I probably would have had the sense to say something like "Hey we should hang out some time" and given her my phone number, but at that moment I was too busy sitting there with my jaw sitting completely open and a vacant expression on my face.

It's probably for the best that I don't talk to her again, since I am going on a mission in.. 2 months from Saturday.. but just wow. I had to say something to someone. And I figured that saying everything to anyone who would listen would be the best way to go about it.

Since this girl has actually read my blog before and there is a slight chance she could be reading, I probably shouldn't post this. But I think I'm going to anyway.

So if you see me staring off into space, chances are my thoughts are somehow connected to her.
And if they're not, then it's probably Guitar Hero or Pokémon.
But the first one sounds better.

A few items of business

Number one:

GOOGLE, WHY HAVE YOU BETRAYED ME?''I have been getting this error about every other time I click on something on Blogger today. Ridiculous. Fortunately, it is not a permanent error and I haven't yet lost hope.

Number two:
A tragic story involving me and a piece of what would normally be called "Gum".

As many of you may know, I hate onions. Much many hates go to the onions from my soul. I hate their Body Odor that enters my face and fills my brain, I hate their taste that similarly enters my face and permeates my soul with evil, and I also hate their taste and smell of death that generally lingers for many hours after an encounter with them.
Now today I ate some gum. Harmless, it seemed at the time. Just some normal Fruity gum. In fact, I'll get a picture.

There it is. Trident Splash: Citrus with Blackberry. Anyway, I chewed this gum, naively thinking that it would fill my life with happiness. Boy was I wrong. About five minutes into chewing this gum I could tell that something was wrong. My mouth was no longer filled with a pleasant Blackberry taste. No, this taste was something completely different.
But I kept chewing. And it only got worse.
Not much later, I put my finger on the taste of this gum. This is ONION gum, I thought to myself. And I was not exaggerating. My life is now full of misery and woe, and it's all because of this gum.
The onion taste is still in my mouth. It's inexplicably unmistakable. And it's strong. The gum is now sitting on the top of my gum tower, mocking me.
Don't ever buy this stupid gum. Ever.
KTHXBAI

Item number three:
My friend Taylor bought this mustache for a thing in a choir concert and we were playing with it, and he suddenly broke out in song.
I usually don't condone (c)rap music, but in this case I made an exception/remix.

Take another picture with my clickclickclickclick camera...

There is a creepy black cat staring at me through my window. I don't know where I lost it, but the point is, I don't have it. I have no idea how many hundreds of texts I'm missing. I've never lost a cell phone before. I've broken like ten, but never lost one. I think someone must have taken it. I'm so mad. I'm pretty depressed about it. Every 20 seconds I have an urge to text someone and I can't. I think I might die.

There have been a few times that I didn't have a cell phone in my life. The first obvious stretch of time was from 0-15. I got my first cell phone at 15. And then I stopped paying for it and didn't have a phone for almost a year. Which was very traumatic for the first few months. Then I got a new phone and I had that one for a long time, and then I sort of chose to give it up. That wasn't as bad, at least I knew it was coming. I kind of disconnected my phone out of spite because I was angry at the general population. I think that was 11th grade. Then I got another new phone, a crappy prepaid one, that is currently in my sister's possesion. I like the service on it. I eventually bought a new phone off my friend, which was easily the best phone I've ever had. It's small, but big enough, and very thin. And, it has all my contacts. AND now it's gone forever. Grr. I looked around on the internet and the best price I could find for one was 150. And I sure as heck ain't paying that much for a new one. So I guess I'll be stuck with a crappy phone until I leave on my mission. I just want one soon. :(

Not yet insomniatic

Well the last 3 weeks on Sunday night I wrote entries on how I couldn't sleep. This week I tried something different and didn't take a 50 hour nap during the day. I know it sounds crazy, but it just might work. So here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna go play one game of My Name Is Jonas on Guitar Hero III, then I'm gonna hit the hay. I'll tell you how it goes. Both the sleeping and the Jonas. Ta ta!

Update: I accidentally booted up Guitar Hero II first, so I played Carry on my Wayward Son by Kansas; which is one of my favorite songs out of any of the Guitar Hero games. I just can't get more than 90% on that stupid song!! I always get 89 or 90 and 4 stars. I can't get any more than that. But then I loaded up GH3 and played My Name is Jonas, which is by Weezer. And I got 97%, which is quite possibly the highest I've ever gotten, or tied for the top score I've ever gotten. And this is with a hurt finger (which is a story I will tell later). And I tried playing it 2 more times, but I got 91% and 93%. I guess I can only play it good one time a night. Meh. Well, I'm going to try and sleep now, but you might be hearing from me again if I can't. Ta ta again!

Yay!

78 words

I'm cool.

And Firefox seems very unresponsive today, it's like I'm using a PC. .... Come on, cats don't use computers. Silly Google engineers. One day they will learn what I know.

Oh and while I have your attention, let me just say that driving in the snow is slightly nerve wracking in rear-wheel drive. Goodness. I drove through the blizzard yesterday in a crappy truck with two thousand dollar mirrors in the back. I heard on the radio this morning that there were over 200 accidents on I-15 yesterday. And I was almost in like 15 of them. But I survived.

Other news for the day? I'm mad that Star Trek: TNG isn't coming on tv anymore. At least not on any of the channels I have. All the awesome power of my Dish DVR is going to waste recording crap off Cartoon Network for my brothers. This simply must stop. I'm not gonna do anything about it though, I've come down with a case of the lazy. It's in its advanced state, there's nothing anyone can do now.

Well that's all for now. I don't like not being able to sleep when I want to. I wish I was like Data (I've been watching too much Star Trek: The Next Generation) and either be able to start a dream sequence on que, or not even need to sleep. Or both. But I need sleep. I just can't always get it. Meh.

So I rambled a little more and posted it, but it was pointless. After I posted it I looked at some of my previous blog entries, and wow. I make absolutely no sense. I have written some of the most random crap. I can hardly believe it. I think I took a lot of my old posts down, but I think they're still around in draft form. I am going to put them back up to see how much I've changed over the years. I think my first blog entry was back in 2005. Oh life was so dramatic then. Or rather, I sure thought it was. I've definitely changed since then. I hope it's for the better.

The point of this post? Don't ask. I like the sound of my own voice.

sleep deprived insanity

I can't sleep.
The sheep are nowhere to be found.
I think they're on a Serta commercial.

Yeah, it's a poem. No not really. I typed the first sentence and it wanted to become a poem. But it just wasn't in the cards. And it doesn't help that I can't write poems either way. I'm surprised anyone reads this junk I write.

What these sheep don't realize is that there are still plenty of people who don't have a Serta mattress who are in dire need of their services. I'm even willing to pay them, if only they'll jump over my bed in order. I knew sheep were dumb, but come on. Choose your battles. Leave Serta alone and come entertain me.

Now that one isn't a poem. It's more of a rant at the sheep. My sanity is beginning to deteriorate.

I slept for like 3 hours and then woke up abruptly. Now that's frustrating. Usually after I fall asleep, I can stay asleep. I don't know what the deal is here. I feel pretty tired, but when I close my eyes, pieces of a song keep spinning through my head and just dare me to try and fall asleep. Ironically the song is "Need some sleep" by The Eels. I just barely looked it up. The only place I've ever heard it is on Shrek. And I haven't seen that movie in a long time. I don't know why it chose to taunt me tonight.

I guess here is where I analyze myself or something. I don't know how this trend started. That one didn't work the sheep in. Maybe I'm giving up on them. I guess we'll just have to read on.

This post is becoming my two personalities fighting in writing. I wish at least one of them would go to sleep. That last sentence was almost written from the point of view of a third personality. Oh great. Now I'm in for it.

At this point I'm not sure if I'm on the writing part or the analyzing part, or why that even started. The point is, we're all going to bed. Rather, we're going to try and sleep. Since I'm already in bed.

Wow, I've really lost it.

Hollywood

I like watching movies. It's fun to take a walk in someone else's shoes for 2 hours and then come back to my own. But every time I see a movie I can't help but notice the degradation in society.

There are so many good movies out there, but as time goes on very few new movies are clean. Sure there are movies that have an "acceptable" amount of violence, sex, or language that wouldn't keep a fairly reasonable person from seeing it. It might not be perfect, but it's not going to keep you from getting a temple recommend. But there are probably one or two movies released per year that are actually clean. No innuendos, no "brief language" and no "brief sexual content". Pixar has released some very clean movies in the past few years, but even they find ways to work in a small innuendo here and there, some sort of language that although is a far cry from a PG-13 rating, you definitely wouldn't say yourself.

There are also the PG-13 movies that could be easily rated PG or even G if you took out the unnecessary language. In fact, there are quite a few R-rated movies that get a PG rating when they edit them for TV, and if they took out a few scenes, or the TV swears, it could even be rated G.

Now that's where CleanFlicks came in. Whenever a movie trailer came out that looked really good, but had a questionable rating, I would always say "Oh well, I'll just see it cleanflicksed." But then Hollywood came in and ruined that for us too. When they found out that people were watching their movies without the nasty scenes included, they were furious. I originally thought it was a money issue, but it was not about the money. The owners of Cleanflicks offered to pay for every rental or sale, but it wasn't even about that. The makers of the movies simply want to pollute the minds of America. They don't really care anymore if you would not pay to see an R-rated movie, but would pay to see an edited one. All they want is to ruin society.

Now I'm not sure if you know or not, but Cleanflicks came back under a different name and an "educational" loophole that kept them in business, doing exactly what they always did. Providing entertainment for the people who still have morals. But what do you know, the crooks in Hollywood recently found out about that too, and are threatening to sue. They were even bold enough to admit that this isn't about who is right or wrong. They just know that a small company like Flix Club can't afford to be tied up in court for years. Even if they won their lawsuit, it would still put them out of business.

I have never understood why so many R-rated movies come out every year, when the makers of the movies know that they won't make even a quarter as much money as if they would have released a PG-13 movie, or even a PG movie. It still doesn't make sense to me that anyone is that stupid. But apparently it's not about the money. It's not about anything.

I'm bipolar apparently.

Here's my newest song--

Dreidel dreidel dreidel,
I made it out of hay
And every time I spin it
The horses all obey!

A little different tone from the last entry.
